Working with Animed
We are a large organisation and employ over 50 people at various levels:
- Veterinary surgeons
- Nurses
- Receptionists and office staff
- Veterinary students
- Work experience school students
Positions as veterinary surgeons and veterinary nurses are advertised in the specialist press as they become available.
Veterinary students
We have specific arrangements for veterinary students from university to see practice both at the Small Animal Hospital and in our Equine Unit. We request that you submit a request by e-mail giving full details of the dates that you are seeking. At any time we can take one student for small animal work and one for equine work.

Work experience students
As you can imagine we are inundated with requests for work experience here at the hospital. We are an approved training facility for veterinary nurses and we do offer places both for work experience pupils in years 10 and 11 of secondary education, placements for sixth formers preparing their UCAS applications and short term placements for students from Sparsholt College, and other surrounding colleges, studying Animal Care and Veterinary Nursing.
Early application is crucial – we are often booked up for at least a year ahead, especially with Year 10 students.
We can only accommodate one student at a time due to the high volume of requests for placements.
We will endeavour to reply promptly to requests for places as long as specific dates are supplied. Please apply by e-mail FTAO Jo Wyatt VN. Head Nurse at the address listed on this site. When you apply we would like to know about your interests and experience with animals, the subjects you are studying and whether you have animals under our care and are familiar with Animed already. If your school advises you to write a formal letter and send a CV then please do so but alert us with an e-mail when you send your letter.
Students are placed here at the main hospital in Shedfield to see small animal practice only, as we are not insured for students to see equine practice. We do not take any students in our outside branch surgeries.
